Overruling of citizenship law challenged:Hellenic League for Human Rights says ‘children of migrants who brought their lives here’ have the right to citizenship

The Hellenic League for Human Rights (HLHR) is campaigning against the government's overruling of a law making citizenship more attainable for second-generation immigrants. The campaign will culminate on March 21 with the UN's International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Earlier this month, a citizenship law passed nearly three years ago was deemed unconstitutional by the Council of State. The law granted citizenship to children of immigrants who have been documented for at least five years, provided applicants have attended a Greek school for at least six years.
