Young Azeris going Greek
Compared to crisis-hit Athens, the capital of Azerbaijan looks like paradise, with its massive public squares, pristine streets, bustling shopping districts and very low crime rates. However, despite the current problems in Greece, for a group of students at Baku Slavic University, the country still holds allure. The students received their first taste of Greek culture and history from “The Myths of Ancient Greece,” a book by Nikolai Kun which has been taught in schools since Soviet times and has been translated into Azeri.
