Man held for attacks on Pakistanis
A 20-year-old Greek man has been arrested on suspicion of belonging to a gang that mounted a string of attacks on Pakistani immigrants in Athens last year. A police statement on Thursday said the suspect is believed to have taken part in three stabbings and one road attack — three of which were carried out within the space of one hour last September. In one of the assaults, a group of men burst into a Pakistani's barber shop, assaulting a Pakistani employee and a Greek customer. They then tried to burn the shop, in northern Athens' Metamorfosi. The suspect faces charges including attempted murder, arson and robbery. The assailants were wearing black T-shirts and masks at the time.
