Combating fascism in schools: Athens University holds seminar for teachers on how to deal with rise in Golden Dawn popularity among students

The growth in popularity of Golden Dawn in the country's secondary schools and the wider problem of how to deal with fascism in the classroom is the subject of a conference at Athens University that starts on Wednesday. Over 20 university historians, social scientists and a psychoanalysist specialising in youth violence will address the conference over two days (pdf). Organisers say the conference is a response to Golden Dawn's interest in recruiting school students and hope that it will equip secondary teachers with the necessary interpretative tools and contexts to engage with students who view history from a fascist perspective.
