Migrant wave from the southeast

Concerns about the influx of refugees from war-torn Syria have prompted the government to shift its focus of stemming illegal immigration from the northeastern borders with Turkey to the northeast Aegean Sea. An operation named Ione, headed by Public Order and Citizen Protection Minister Nikos Dendias, hopes to deal with the growing wave of North African and Middle Eastern immigrants. The plan is named after an 8th century BC Greek colony in Syria.
