Racists attack migrants, trash seven homes
A number of Pakistani and Indian nationals have spoken of their ordeal at the hands of racist attackers, who trashed their homes and beat them in an incident in a northern Athens suburb of Menidi on July 17. The victims alleged that the police, who arrived shortly after the attacks began, failed to intervene to prevent the destruction. Speaking at an Athens press conference, one migrant said the attack was sudden and unprovoked. "It was 10pm and I sat outside my front door with Nermal [a friend] to eat. Because it was hot, we needed to get some air. Suddenly about 20 men, all in hoods, started hitting us, we didn't realise what was happening. They beat us really badly," said Vije Kumar, who is from India.
