Unemployed and undocumented

While hundreds of thousands of Greeks have joined the ranks of the unemployed (the rate of joblessness has beat new records reaching 27%), immigrants losing their jobs are suffering much longer-lasting repercussions. It's much tougher for immigrants to re-enter the workforce because they predominantly work in construction, tourism and manufacturing - the three sectors hardest hit by the economic crisis and the country’s deep recession. And those who don't find work will lose their right to stay in Greece. This is because the main application requirement for the renewal of the residence permit is stable employment.
