Mediterranean summit to tackle illegal migration

Leaders of 10 western Mediterranean countries will study a possible "migrants contract" at a planned summit on immigration December 5-6 in Tunis. The meeting, which will be hosted by Tunisian President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, is expected to be attended by the presidents and prime ministers of France, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain. The fight against illegal immigration has become a priority of European Union immigration policy in recent years.
