Greece halts deportation for Syrians

Greece has suspended the deportation of immigrants from Syria who entered the country illegally, amid growing concern from human rights groups that those fleeing the civil war there are not being properly screened for asylum. Public order ministry official Manolis Katriadakis told a news conference organised in Athens by the United Nations' refugee agency UNHCR that deportations had been suspended starting April 9, with the order to be reviewed every six months.
