How many migrants are there?

Despite legitimate fear and anxiety over illegal immigration, experts accuse politicians of inflating the numbers for political gain.  The numbers being presented by members of the extreme right Golden Dawn (some have put the number of undocumented migrants as high as one million, while others claim there are more than four million) are completely off the mark, according to Professor Anna Triandafyllidou, the director of a programme on cultural diversity at the European University Institute in Florence, and a senior fellow at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) in Athens.
