Patra camp to close

Stung by a barrage of criticism, ruling New Democracy says it will create a reception centre for migrants and asylum seekers at the Greek port city of Patra - a key route for migrants desperate to sneak across the sea to neighbouring Italy and points west. Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos met with officials in Patra on April 26 and said the shantytown just north of the port, where hundreds of undocumented migrants and asylum seekers currently squat, will be demolished before the end of the month.
