Muslim Turkey spooks French, Germans in EU vote campaign
The prospect of up to 100 million Turks joining the European Union one day is spooking voters and splitting politicians in France and Germany in the campaign for this month’s European Parliament elections. Only months after the bloc’s expansion from 15 to 25 members, EU leaders will decide in December whether to open accession talks with Ankara, which many west Europeans see as too big, too Muslim and too weak on human rights.
