High court to rule on 'racist' ban

The council of State - Greece's highest administrative court - will decide next month whether the government has the right to prohibit immigrants from selling goods at open-air markets in Athens. A ministerial decision signed by Deputy Development Minister Ioannis Papathanassiou in August 2005 explicitly states that only European Union citizens and repatriated Greeks from the former Soviet Union and Albania are eligible to apply for a new licence.
