Undeclared work on the rise
The rate of undeclared employment has reached 36%, rising as much as 44% in some regions, according to a report drafted by inspectors of the Social Insurance Foundation (IKA) and submitted to parliament for review by Labour Minister Yiannis Vroutsis. A total 19,083 inspections were conducted last year. Inspectors discovered 22,006 unregistered (and thus uninsured workers). About 40% of these workers are immigrants.
