Shorter wait for longterm migrants

So tardy is Greece when it comes to turning European Union directives into law that news the country might actually beat a Brussels deadline and introduce EU-wide permanent residence for immigrants is catching most critics by surprise. Member states have until January 2006, at the latest, to bring into force laws, regulations and administrative provisions in order to comply with European Council Directive (2003/109/EC) on longterm resident status of third-country nationals.
