One more week for migrants, but under one condition

Immigrants hoping to renew their expired residence and work permits jammed municipality and prefecture offices as the 30 June deadline approached. Under pressure to extend the deadline, the interior ministry issued an urgent circular (#39, 10288/04) on June 28 calling on prefectures (responsible for the work permit applications) across the country to allow migrants to submit their applications until July 7. But under one condition: that they had queued at the offices before the end of June and had been issued a protocol number.
