Greece lifts work permits for some new EU citizens

A new law means thousands of workers from central and east Europeancountries are no longer subject to immigration controls, as long as they prove12 months of legality. Citizens of the eight central and east European countries that joined the European Union in May will enjoy a full equality of treatment with other EU citizens, provided they can prove at least 12 months of working legally in Greece. Those who can't are still required to renew their residence and work permits or risk deportation.
